Coop From scratch

The last few meals is our house have been awesome local foods from either my garden or the coop. Last night we had pinto beans with a griffieon family farms ham hock, kale from wilted greens, potatoes from huber family farms, garlic from tesdale farms, and onions and jalepenos from the coop also.
Tonight we are having from scratch spaghetti sauce from tomatoes, peppers. Onion garlic ground beef all from the coop, and from scratch pasta made with coop eggs. Being locavore means good eats!

Ankeny Quilt Show

This was my second year to attend the show, its small, but I really really like it. Good selection of vendors, lots of pretty quilts to see. Its just right, not crowded and very nice people run the show. Also, its usually the first Summerfest event I attend. I hope I can talk Mark into taking me there for supper or the very least dessert!

Oops

So I had a lot of tomatoe volunteers pop up, a couple of them were so green and healthy, they looked pretty good for neglected volunteers. I was walking my garden yesterday, just looking lamenting the bunnie damage to my peas and beans when I realized, those volunteers don't look at all like my tomatoe transplants. Not at all. In fact they have more leaves, five leaves in a set, a hand so to speak.

I had volunteer ditch weed. No I did not take a picture. :D

I had a blast making these mini aprons, don't understand about all the fuss with life getting in the way. Made five while watching the Thursday night primetime lineup.

We all have a life to live, I guess the question is....can you handle yours?

This is the apron I made for Sharilyn for the clothespin apron swap, I did double duty and submitted it for my apron merit badge. This was fun to make, the eyelet is a piece of vintage lace I picked up in Liberty Mo while there for some needlework classes.

laundry and cheese....

I really like the laundry soap I made. My clothes smell so fresh and clean, and I noticed that more lint and hair ended up on my lint trap, good!

My first batch of the soft cheese turned out good, a little soft, like a cross between sour cream and cream cheese, but very tasty. I used some chives from my garden and some herb mix I have in my grinder, it makes a good dip, and would also be good with crackers.

My second batch is draining in the fridge, and this time instead of using cheesecloth, I used a tea towel, I think it will drain better, I twisted the cloth slightly to squeeze the cheese together and help the whey drain. We'll see how it turns out tomorrow.

Inspired

Inspired by the cheesemaking forum on maryjanes farm, I decided to try the soft cheese in the new issue, so far so good.
Additionally inspired to try making the homemade laundry soap, can't wait to use it!
What a great day!
